A Note on Internet Explorer 6

As a developer, I make a concerted effort to build websites with strong interoperable support among web browsers. Generally, this translates to providing a separate style sheet — with all the necessary hacks and edits — needed to keep Internet Explorer 6 from mangling an otherwise beautiful layout. I know that as long as there a broad range of users to cater to, the effort is required.

A slow but growing consensus of web developers is beginning to abandon support for IE6. I agree with the vocal majority that if you believe you have a user base with need for continued support, by all means offer it. Otherwise, drop support and never look back.

That said, I take a small drop of satisfaction in stating this site will not make any more effort than needed to support Internet Explorer 6. Take a minute to upgrade or download the latest Firefox.

documenting the experience rather than experiencing it

(a post never realized)

putting aside the recently documented >>link<< animal rights abuses for a moment, waiting in the subzero weather at midnight to watch a parade of zoo animals walk down 34th street in manhattan is a unique event few are able to witness.

/example/ (trying to get a snapshot of elephants coming through queens tunnel, spent entire time behind camera — entire event occurs through filter)

could be integral part of creating new experience, richer, factual and thorough
or supplanting the genuine experience

you can point to a photo or a video or a tweet but what (?intrinsic?) value have you really retained
less a notion of capturing a moment to remember the experience by then documenting every aspect of the experience

Vegan Garbage Plates

It is my intention to craft a recipe for the notorious but delicious Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate that will not only be free of meat and dairy products, but will retain the greasy and gritty taste of the original.

This will require research — trial and error — based on an admittedly fading seven year old memory. I expect there have been attempts at this before, however the quality is likely comparable to the dozens of other misnamed knockoffs throughout Rochester.

For those unfamiliar, see the description here and here.

Peacebones

After more than a year and a half of procrastination, false starts, and restarts the redesigned www.tomhurlburt.com has launched. Under the surface the site is a custom wordpress theme with a few very specific plugins that attempt to give the appearance of a more dynamic infrastructure, without all the necessary programming. Consider the design a perpetual work in progress. Tom is a Camera TD at Blue Sky Studios.
